Epilight Hair Removal System |
The Epilight Hair Removal System allows for removal of all hair types, on any part of the body, and hair color in virtually all skin pigment types. This is truly the most versatile hair removal system today. The
treatment also offers patients long-term results, faster treatment, less pain, and fewer side effects than traditional hair removal methods.
The Epilight treatment is so effective some patients have experienced no hair re-growth for more than 7 years. Because of his extensive experience with hair removal devices since 1995, Dr. Stewart was selected as one of only fifteen physicians across the country to participate in the clinical and investigative studies with the Epilight. As a result of these studies the FDA approved Epilight in July 1997. Rather than a laser treatment, the Epilight works by using a high intensity pulsed light to damage and destroy hair shafts and follicles. The light emitted from the Epilight system is absorbed specifically by hair, with little to no damage to surrounding skin.
The Epilight system offers greater versatility, permitting our doctors to customize the treatment according to the individual needs of the patient. Because of the high energy and large spot size, Epilight permits treating large areas in a short time.
Men and women have always looked for ways to permanently remove unwanted hair. Technology has, of course, greatly improved our methods of removing hair over the years. We will tailor make a treatment regimen just for you of either electrolysis, laser hair removal, or a combination of the two treatments.
HOW DO I CHOOSE BETWEEN ELECTROLYSIS AND LASER HAIR REMOVAL?
In our practice electrolysis is usually reserved for the destruction of white, blond or red hair. It is also ideal when one or a few hairs need to be treated,
i.e. hair out of facial moles. Darker hair and larger hair baring surfaces, today, are more efficiently treated with laser hair removal.
How Does Electrolysis Work?
A very fine probe is inserted into each unwanted hair follicle. Then an electrical impulse cauterizes the blood vessels and destroys the hair's ability to grow. The hair is released from its follicle and permanently removed.
Does The Treatment Hurt?
Many patients describe the sensation as a "sting," a "twinge," or even a "zap," which is over very quickly. Sensitivity varies with each person and depends on the area being treated. Your own sensitivity can change from day to day due to mood and menstrual changes. The electrologist can help by adjusting treatment levels and timings to make the procedure more comfortable.
Are Sterile Probes (needles) And Tweezers Used?
Yes, our probes and tweezers are steam-sterilized in a surgical autoclave. It is a proven, effective method for sterilizing all surgical and electrology instruments.
What Will I Gain For My Time And Expense?
Feeling good about yourself "all the time" is important. Electrolysis is worth the hours and expense when you compare it to daily plucking and other temporary hair removal methods. An estimate of the expenses will be provided during your initial consultation. With our special "techniques", each and every treatment moves you closer to the results your desire.

How does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal utilizes various colors of light which are absorbed as heat energy in the pigmented regions of the hair follicles. The light energy produces heat damage in the hair follicle and the follicles stop producing long, dark hairs.
Laser hair removal is safe to use on all areas of the body. Most people require approximately 5 to 7 treatment sessions to produce long lasting hair removal in a given area. Treatment sessions are usually performed at 1 to 2 month intervals, depending on the area of skin being treated.
For successful treatment, the root of the hairs must be present under the skin during laser treatment. For this reason, we advise not to pluck, wax or use cream depilatories between treatments. Shaving or clipping the hair between treatments is the best approach.
Following each laser treatment, there is typically no hair growth for several weeks, at which point fewer hairs will regrow which are usually lighter in color, thinner and softer. With each subsequent laser treatment, fewer and fewer hairs will regrow.
Depending on the area being treated, there can be some discomfort during the procedure. For sensitive areas, such as the bikini line or the underarms, or for the treatment of large areas such as the full legs or back, patients can elect to have topical anesthetic cream applied before treatment. This cream is applied 30 minutes before the procedure, and significantly minimizes treatment discomfort. Most patients treating smaller areas of skin do not require the anesthetic cream.
Who is a Candidate for this Procedure?
With our cutting edge technology, we can safely treat any skin type including skin of color. All hair colors with the exception of white and blonde hairs respond well to laser treatment.
Following laser treatment, there may be some pinkness and swelling of the laser treated area which may last for minutes to hours, and patients can go about their normal activities immediately following treatment.
Sclerotherapy treats spider veins of the legs. Our practice has been doing sclerotherapy for more than 20 years. The treatment involves a series of microinjections, which instills a solution into the veins. The injected solution acts by drying the tiny cells, which line the blood vessels so the capillary will cease to carry blood. The body then replaces these vessels with invisible scat tissue without harming deep circulation.
How many treatments will I need?
For maximum effectiveness, veins are treated 2-3 times. Vessels disappear over a period of a few weeks to months.
What are the benefits?
Sclerotherapy is used for all skin types, particularly, with tanned skin. It may be used in conjunction with Vasculite® (Intense Pulse Light) and it is less costly than other treatments or surgery.
Is it safe?
Sclerotherapy may safely be used on all sizes of leg veins and in all pigment types.
Alpha hydroxyacid is the term used for several naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods. These include lactic acid, derived from sour milk; citric acid, derived from citric fruit such as oranges; and glycolic acid, derived from sugar cane Alpha hydroxyacids are helpful in treating a variety of skin ailments. They have proven to be effective in treating dry skin, acne, liver or sun spots, lessening fine facial wrinkles, and improving skin texture.
Recent studies have also shown that alpha hydroxyacids can reverse precancerous skin lesions, which are due to long term sun exposure. Alpha hydroxyacids work by loosening and removing dead skin cells. Alpha hydroxyacids can be used in low concentrations as found in many cosmetics and rare available over the counter. They are available in doctor's offices in medium and high concentrations. When used in high concentrations, they are best applied at intervals of three to six weeks. This is known as a series of acid peels. The alpha hydroxyacid used most commonly for peels is gylocic acid. Unlike other chemical peels, alpha hydroxyacids are not toxic to the skin.
It's not a chemical, not a laser, not a surgical procedure. Instead, a microdermabrasion treatment takes about 30 minutes after which you can return immediately to your daily activities. You'll feel minimal discomfort, only the glow of newer, fresher skin. The microdermabrasion process can reduce or even erase your fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, scars or other superficial blemishes.
The microdermabrasion process is safe and affordable because it's so simple. A precision handpiece is used to direct a stream of very fine crystals and mild suction exactly where needed on your skin. The gentle abrasive action of the crystals combines with the suction to remove the dead out layer of your skin while bringing smoother, softer skin to the surface. The microdermabrasion process works equally well on all colors of skin.
